MPressFest SXSW 2014 Recap
On Saturday, March 15th we held our 8th annual SXSW Official Day Party at the Soho Lounge in Austin. Everybody agreed it was our best yet!
The place was packed consistently all day, and as usual our Whole Foods spread went pretty quickly. Our amazing lineup of bands rocked all afternoon: Danielle Howle & Firework Show from Charleston, SC kicked us off, with Dominic Kelly of A Fragile Tomorrow (also from Charleston) sitting in on drums. A Fragile Tomorrow then followed up with a great set of brand-new songs. Next up our own Seth Glier, accompanied by saxophonist Joe Nerney (who had ridden a Greyhound bus for over two days to get to Austin for the party!) wowed everyone. Seth and Joe ended their set by daring to do what most at SXSW thought impossible: they went completely unplugged down on the floor to debut a new song, accompanied by violinist Kelly Halloran of The Sequins.
The day turned international after that, as Winnipeg, Canada's own JP Hoe and his band played an amazing set. Then Rachael Sage & The Sequins (featuring Evan Blivins on drums for the first time ever!) took to the stage to perform material from their brand-new EP, "New Destination", while Rachael debuted her newly-acquired bright blue Gretsch electric guitar. South Africa's The Parlotones delivered a set of stripped-down acoustic pop, then Australia's Mia Dyson rocked us out with a blistering set of bluesy tunes from her new album.
Once again, special thanks to all the artists who participated, Whole Foods, SXSW staff and our sponsors: Soho Lounge, Blurt Magazine, Planetary Group, The Deli, M Music & Musicians, and Rocki!
