Shalom, & happy post-Independence week!
Rachael Sage is back in NYC for a bit, fresh off a whirlwind 4-week tour, and ready to take in Summer...the season for stopping to smell the roses a.k.a. street-fairs, and of course, eating lots of sorbet.
A smattering of oh-so-sizzling news & upcoming shows is below! Please peruse at your leisure :)
xoxo & pocket-fans,
Rachael Sage & The Sequins
"The week I get back from any long tour, it's always a bit overwhelming. People in my neighborhood ask me gently, 'so, how was your tour?' I usually respond with an enthusiastic comment like 'It was amazing! I went all over the country, played some great rooms and met some really cool new people!' But frustratingly, it's impossible for me to articulate what touring means to me — and certainly in a casual conversation. How do you explain in a nutshell the mind-blowing afternoon you spent at The Warhol Museum with your band in Pittsburgh, what an honor it is to support the lovely Dar Williams at an idyllic outdoor space in Cleveland, or how compelling it is to play your last show of the tour at the legendary venue 'Bon Soir' at The Pink Elephant, where Barbra Streisand and Joan Rivers each made their debuts?
"I'm often urged to keep a blog, to post more photos via Instagram, and to Tweet more. The reality is, sometimes I face a very distinct choice to either chronicle what I'm experiencing as it's happening, or to just be 'in' it. This tour, I felt very, very present. My bandmate, Ward Williams, was listening so beautifully at every gig that we really got to another level musically, by the end of the run. Most importantly, I met or reaquainted myself with so many more of YOU. We talked, we hung out and laughed after shows, I heard your stories and of course, I'll keep you with me. Thank you for being as much of a home as the one I return to, in the deepest sense of the word. I wouldn't have it any other way!"
On July 18th, MPress Records released Rachael's first official acoustic collection, "Haunted By You (Acoustic EP)". Featuring material from her recent 10th album "Haunted By You", the collection of guitar-based originals, supported by members of Sage's touring band The Sequins, includes guest appearances by Dar Williams, Katie Costello and Grammy® nominee Seth Glier. This is an exclusively digital release, available now on iTunes!
This month Rachael will be featured in an ambitious, multi-media event called "RAW", in NYC's Tribeca. The first artist in RAW's history to be both a featured musician and visual artist, Sage will perform at MIXOLOGY at M1-5 Lounge on Thursday, July 26th (the event begins at 8pm, and Rachael's set will be roughly at 9:45pm). RAW is a multi-faceted artistic showcase featuring hand-selected creatives in visual art, film, fashion, music, hair & makeup artistry, photography, models and performing art. Rachael's visual art will be displayed and she will be performing selections from her new album "Haunted By You", as well as some old favorites. Learn more & order your tickets before they sell out!
Press has continued to roll in for Rachael's 10th album, including a feature in M Music & Musicians, WXPN's prestigious My Morning Download, and a veritable plethora of guest-blog pieces about everything ranging from Rachael's favorite lipstick, to her penchant for crafting. Thanks to the writers at these indie-supportive publications for highlighting "Haunted By You", and helping spread the buzz:
Last week Rachael ventured all the way out to (gasp!) Williamsburg, Brooklyn to begin work on her official video for "Invisible Light". Directed by fellow renaissance gal Alyson Greenfield (who also sings, plays many instruments and runs the Tinderbox Festival), the video will incorporate artwork by Rachael, an abundance of candles, and...well, you'll have to just wait to see it! Stay tuned for more details to come, in the next few weeks :)
