Rachael Sage's 'Tchatchkes & Latkes' Returns on 12/22 as a Benefit for Hurricane Sandy Relief

Rachael SageDeftly Balancing Catskills’ Shtick with Indie Rocker Musicality, Rachael Sage’s ‘Tchatchkes & Latkes!’ Sees the Art-Pop Songstress "Alternately channeling her inner Fanny Brice and Jewish Norah Jones" (The New York Times)

Art-pop songstress Rachael Sage brings her campy, inspiring ‘Tchatchkes & Latkes!’ back to Joe’s Pub in NYC for a December 22nd Holiday event, as a Benefit for Hurricane Sandy Relief.

Her post-Hanukah-pre-Christmas musical hijinks will feature Sage’s quirky theatricality at its best – an upbeat evening of vaudevillian shtick, playful Yiddishkeit, pianistic flair and hilarious, written-on-the-spot, topical compositions. Expect wacky props, special Hanukah gelt and tasty latkes, provided by Veselka Bowery!

Sage promises to “weave songs from her ten-album discography with shpiel about her life as a former ballerina, adventures on the road, and her family’s extensive menorah collection.” On 12/22, she will share the stage with some of her talented New York neighbors, including cellist Dave Eggar (Coldplay), trumpet player Russ Johnson (Elvis Costello) and violinist Kelly Halloran (Left On Red). Proceeds from this performance will benefit: The Red Hook Initiative (Brooklyn), Project Hospitality Staten Island Hurricane Relief Fund (Staten Island) and Graybeards (The Rockaways).

A native downtown New Yorker, Sage was impacted by the Hurricane but realizes she was more fortunate than many: “I was without power and heat for five days and really had nowhere else to go so I just stuck it out. By day three it was definitely getting colder…How lucky though to only have had such a minor inconvenience...I know many people who were really hit so hard by all of it -- in Red Hook and NJ and Battery Park…and elsewhere.”

Sage’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival one-woman shows, her Joe's Pub appearances, her acting background (she studied at The Actors Studio and The New York Shakespeare Lab at The Public Theater), all combine to create a singer-songwriter with a compelling stage presence. She has been covered by THE WALL STREET JOURNAL, THE NEW YORK TIMES, THE HUFFINGTON POST, TIME OUT NY, AMERICAN SONGWRITER, and numerous other outlets.
